阮炼，1984 年获得北京大学历史学学士，1988 年获得美国加利福利亚洛杉矶分校（UCLA）历史学硕士，1990 年获得美国伊利诺大学厄巴那-香槟分校（伊大 UIUC）图书信息学硕 士，2011 年获得美国伊大（UIUC）图书信息学博士。现任伊大伊州消防服务培训学院 (IFSI) 图书馆馆长和该院国际项目负责人，并任伊大信息学院 (iSchool)研究教授，担任 多项州及国家课题项目首席研究员, 出版过多种学术论文专著。曾任美国华人图书馆员 协会（CALA）主席及执行董事长，担任国际图联信息素养常设委员会和国际图联图书馆理论与研究常设委员会成员等多个职务。自 2005 起，有 462 名图书馆员参加了她组织 的中国图书馆员学术交流项目（CLSEP），她还邀请并接待了 197 名中国访问学者及学生。 她获得的奖项包括连续 3 年获得美国国立博物馆和图书馆服务学院最佳博物馆和图书 馆国家勋章提名、伊大校长奖、华人图书馆员协会会长奖、华人图书馆员协会杰出服务 奖、华人图书馆员协会纪念冯张美玲博士杰出图书馆领导奖、伊州年度最佳学术图书馆 员、伊州消防队员协会最高荣誉奖、有色人种图书馆员联席会议倡导奖等，并被评为伊 大建校 150 周年来最杰出的 150 位女性之一。

         Lian Ruan received a bachelor's degree in history from Peking University in 1984, a master's degree in history from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1988, a master's degree in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1990, and a doctorate in library and information science from UIUC in 2011. She is currently the Head Librarian and Director of IFSI International programs at the UIUC Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI), and an Affiliate Research Faculty at the UIUC School of Information Sciences. She has served as the Principal Investigator for several state and national grant projects and published numerous publications. She has served in multiple capacities, including as the President and Executive Director of the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA), and as a member of the IFLA Information Literacy Standing Committee and the IFLA Library Theory and Research Standing Committee. Since 2005, she has organized the Chinese Librarians Scholarly Exchange Program (CLSEP) in which 462 librarians have participated, and since 2008 she has also invited and hosted 197 Chinese visiting scholars and students to study at UIUC. She has received multiple awards including being named as a finalist for the National Medal for Museum and Library Services by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) three years in a row; the University of Illinois Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence Award; the CALA President Recognition Award; the CALA Distinguished Services Award; the CALA Outstanding Library Leadership Award in Memory of Dr. Margaret Chang Fung; the Illinois Academic Librarian of the Year Award; the Illinois Firefighter’s Association Inc. Honor; and the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color Advocacy Award. She was named one of the 150 most outstanding UIUC women during the 150th anniversary of the founding of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
