This study investigates how trust forms in staged cooperative relationships, comparing two institutional designs: a precommitment mechanism where the principal commits to a complete investment path ex ante, and a discretionary mechanism that permits adaptive choice each stage. In a controlled trust game, precommitment leads to higher initial investment and stronger reciprocity within relationships, generating greater joint surplus but reducing entry. Discretion encourages broader participation through lower barriers, but leads to more cautious investment patterns and weaker reciprocity. These findings provide a foundation for designing contracts and partnerships over a short, multi-stage horizon.

何韵文，清华大学经济学博士，现任中央财经大学财政税务学院助理教授，主要研究领域为公共经济学、行为经济学、实验经济学、信息经济学。研究成果发表在《经济研究》、《管理科学学报》、《经济学（季刊）》、Economics Letters、Humanities & Social Sciences Communications等学术期刊。
